Careful Screening
We employ a careful screening process with all of au pairs throughout Northern Virginia and all of the U.S. We screen all of our au pairs based on their ability to speak English, their childcare abilities and education. We also require a background check for each candidate and a certificate of health.

Each candidate au pair completes a pre-application which is sent to the office in her home country. If their profile is a fit with our needs, the prospective au pair is invited to attend a Screening and Orientation meeting with a recruitment lead in her area.

Every prospective au pair has personal interview in both her native language and in English. During this interview, her English language proficiency is assessed as well as her personality and motivation to become an au pair. We also discuss with her what their year abroad in the U.S. is likely to entail, hoping to create a realistic picture for them. It is through this individualized process that we evaluate each candidate's suitability for placement with an American family.

After they have been screened for initial compatibility as an au pair, each applicant the completes a comprehensive application which contains detailed information about their education, childcare experience, family background and interests and goals. The information about the childcare experience includes the sexes and ages of the children they have cared for previously.

Candidates also include a photo of themselves, a collage of photos of family and friends, a letter written in English to the prospective American family, and three general references (non-family and at least one reference must be one that can document their childcare experience). You will also be given the opportunity to contact the references as you evaluate the au pair.

A complete background investigation is also conducted for each prospective au pair which consists of a police record check, current health certificate, confirmation of schooling and a standardized personality test.
